Window Questions???

We had an estimate yesterday for replacement windows. Now, we have some huge windows, the ones on the main floor are 6'4" tall. The estimate came in at a great and affordable price, but they are not the argon filled windows (from what we can tell, I'm emailing the guy today to find out for sure.) He said they are Energy Star rated for our area.

So, if we are looking for real good energy efficiency, do we have to go with the argon filled windows, or will we be fine with regular windows, with some sort of glazing, up here in Minneapolis?

Oh, and if you want to see the actual estimate, you can do so here:

Hi Karen-
Definitely check out the "replacement windows" forum (http://www.houseblogs.net/community/comments.php?DiscussionID=168)
People have been SO helpful there. I am also in the TC area, and we just got window estimates from Lampert's, Scherer Bros, and Harmony Homes... They were all for the same product (Marvin Ultimate Double Hung Inserts) and varied considerably, so I would suggest getting a few more estimates, even if you are sure on the product you want. I've found the windows people will bargain with you- if you have a better price from one, tell them and see what another will do for you. The Marvin product does come with the Low E glass... we saw them at the home show and they are really nice, but I don't know much about the Impervia's - I'll check that out soon. The prices on our Marvin estimates were actually a little lower than the Impervia's on your estimate. Let me know if you want more info on what we have looked into locally.
